Now I've Heard Everything

Now I've Heard Everything

Recently, I broke my ankle. I was in the Hospital for surgery which generated an overnight stay.  Now…Before I go any further, let me just say that I have GREAT insurance. In FACT, It’s SO good, I rarely ever have to pay for ANYTHING. I mean NOTHING!!!  In all fairness though, I DO pay astronomical insurance premiums, in fact, they could probably keep an entire COUNTRY afloat for 30 days.

Anyway, the bills stared to roll in and per usual, ALL the bills charged were paid in full. You could see a smile run from ear to ear after each bill I opened.

I continued opening about four bills for the usual things like the ER, X-Rays, Dr. bills etc, when I opened the Mother Load of ALL bills. It was designated as Room and Board…SERIOUSLY??? Where was I staying, at the Hilton? Just take a guess at how much this one day stay was for “Room and Board”?

If you guessed 10K, you would have been right. I was floored. Ten thousand dollars…REALLY??? “For WHAT” I shouted out loud to no one. I mean I wasn’t staying at the Bellagio Penthouse in Vegas, I was having my temp. taken and blood pressure measured every 4 hours. Did I even SLEEP…I don’t THINK so. MAYBE, if hey gave me gourmet food cooked by chef Gordon Ramsey, and served with actual silk napkins, but NO…I had rice and beans with what appeared to be a meatloaf hidden behind he plate.

OK…HEAR’S the thing, They (Ins. Co.), not only paid the 10k, they paid the Hospital 20K…Now, I KNOW how to read a bill so when I saw this it made me angry. I got on the phone, called the Insurance Company to see if this was jus an error. When I finally go to speak with a REAL person, this is the answer I received. I was told that even though the Hospital ONLY charged Ten Thousand dollars for the “SERVICE”, SOMETIMES the Insurance Company pays more o insure that the hospital is proving he BEST of CARE. Can you even BELIEVE this, Now I’ve heard everything. I hung up the phone in total disgust and swore NEVER to be sick again.

Until Later…

That makes absolutely no sense! You’d think it would be the other way. Usually one has to fight the insurance to pay. What is wrong with this scenario??? Everything.

You have to remember that you’re bills didn’t just cover you……They also covered not only others that didn’t pay but also insurance for doctors that might be sued. Think about it. If you end up with a limp you can sue your doctor (& the hospital) for 10 or 20 million dollars & probably win. Insurance for something like that is EXPENSIVE.

Incredible thought. You need to recall that you’re bills didn’t simply cover you. They likewise secured others that didn’t pay as well as protection for specialists that may be sued. Consider it or exploration on it through bestessays as it is a big platform for researchers. I surmise that if you wind up with a limp you can sue your specialist for 10 or 20 million dollars and likely win.

You asked, I don’t believe it. Insurance companies don’t pay bills like that, they pay a negotiated amount of the bill. I had a medical device embedded that cost $40,000, the insurance paid nothing. Two other times I had a 4-hour procedure that cost $200,000 each, the total payout by the insurance company was ~$8,000. I had a $15,000 kidney stone that the payout was ~$2,000. I’ve had a ton of EKGs in the hospital that was billed at $10,000 each, they were paid $80.
Your room at $10k per day is almost 10x emergency room rates!
The real crime here is that people without insurance pay full retail.

Health Insurance is ‘for profit’. If Trump ever gets his health care plan approved, then the only people who will be able to get medical care are the rich. If that happens, then we will all be stating, “dont ever get sick”

I really don’t blame insurance companies. I think that it’s a combination of lawyers suing everybody & people just plain abusing the ER’s when something should have been handled with a normal doctor’s office visit. Oh & I also don’t want to leave out the fact that BY LAW people going to ER’s have to be seen.

          January 20, 2014
          1. dreamshadow59

I’m sure you are right about the abuse factor AND the Lawyers suing everybody…
